3. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION

Under normal use conditions, this product is stable.

May give off SO2, SO3, nitrogen and organic acids under action of extreme heat. Aqueous solutions are easily fermentable.

4. FIRST AID MEASURES

Skin contact Wash with water
Eyes contact Wash with plenty of water
Ingestion Drink large amount of liquids and make vomit if person is conscious.
Inhalation Wash mucous membranes. If irritation persists, seek medical advice.

 

5. FIRE PRECAUTIONS/FIRE FIGHTING

All extinguisher types can be used.

Respiratory masks are recommended in order to take precautions against dusts and fumes.

 

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE

Workers' protection Wear personal protective clothes.
Protection and cleaning Sweep up and put in drums or bags. Mix residue with sawdust or sand. Dispose of according to local regulations or incinerate.
Neutralisation In aqueous solution, the product precipitates the metallic salts.

10. STABILITY & REACTIVITY

Under normal use conditions, this product is stable. At high temperature, it gives off SO2, SO3, various organic acids, pyrogalol, catechol, ellagic acids.

The product is precipitated from its aqueous solution by addition of metallic salts, gelatine. It becomes oxidised with air.

 

11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

We have no figure on toxicological values actually.

The preparation is made mainly with natural wood, leaves or bark extracts, some of them being used in therapeutics or animal food. Analysis on similar tanning extract gives the following figures :

DL 50 oral on rat : 3,100 mg/Kg

DL 50 skin on rat : 7,000 mg/Kg

No disastrous effect, no sensitisation to this product have been reported until today.

As every pulverulent product the powder may provoke respiratory problems by inhalation.

 

12. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Natural product of high molecular weight ; biodegradability is low. The product is very sensitive to metallic salts and is disposed of in waste waters under the form of mud by treatment with alumine sulphate. Although the effects on environment and waters are not disastrous, at the moment we have no figure on ecotoxicity.

 

13. WASTE DISPOSAL

Dispose of according to local regulations.

The product is eliminated of aqueous solutions by precipitation under the form of muds with alumine sulphate (formation of alumine tannate).

Elimination of residue and packing by incineration.

The product is not regulated.
