3. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION

Under normal use conditions, this product is stable.

May give off SO2, SO3 and irritant fumes under action of extreme heat (> 500°C).

4. FIRST AID MEASURES

Skin contact Wash with soap and water
Eyes contact Irrigate with copious amounts of water for at least 15 minutes
Ingestion Drink large amount of liquids and seek medical advice

Skin, eyes and mucous membranes can be irritated. Skin disease or allergy may occur. Research and statistical evidence indicates material is non hazardous but of low toxicity.

 

5. FIRE PRECAUTIONS/FIRE FIGHTING

Product is not combustible and does not support burning.

May give off SO2 and SO3 under action of extreme heat.

In the event of fire, all extinguisher types can be used. Select on the basis of the other materials present.

 

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE

Measures Collect into container and wash residue away with water which should be collected and precipitated by the addition of sodium carbonate or sodium hydroxide to pH 8.5. Dispose of residue to approved land fill sites according to local regs. Precipitate as chromium hydroxide.

 

 

7. HANDLING & STORAGE

Handling Wear mask to avoid respiring dust
Storage Store in cool dry place. Protect from moisture.

Breathing devices Approved respirator to protect against airborne dust
General precautions Clean protective clothing must be used daily. Workers should take hot shower at end of work period or day.

10. STABILITY & REACTIVITY

Under normal use conditions, this product is stable.

Precipitates as chromium hydroxide with soda carbonate or sodium hydroxide.

May give off SO2 and SO3 may give off under extreme heat.

 

11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Skin irritation - Eye Irritation : Research and statistical evidence indicates material is essentially non-hazardous, but of low toxicity which may cause irritation to skin, eyes and mucous membranes.

LD50 Oral/rat : > 3,500 mg/Kg

Effluent : chrome threshold limit value is 1.5 mg/liter in France

Free phenol content for a similar product is 10 ppm

EEC regulation concerning phenol evacuation in waters give as maximum content of free phenol : < 0,1 mg/l

 

13. WASTE DISPOSAL

Precipitate as chromium hydroxide.

Dispose of to approved disposal area in accordance with local regulations, or contact supplier or manufacturer.
