3. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION
Acute exposure :
Oral/Ingestion : May cause significant effects if swallowed
Skin/Dermal : No significant effect if absorbed through skin
Inhalation : No effect is vapour is inhaled
Irritation - Sensitisation :
Skin/Dermal : Do not cause skin irritation but can give allergic skin reaction Eyes Will cause serious damage to eyes if not rapidly neutralised and washed.
Environmental problems :
Syntex DIBS is not expected to give adverse environmental effect. Product is readily biodegradable. Nevertheless, tanners or end users should obtain consent of Pollution Control Authoriies before discharging directly to waterways.
Symptoms of exposure :
Oral/Ingestion : May cause nausea or vomiting.
Skin/Dermal : Redness or itching are possible as well as irritation Eyes Redness or burning can be severe.
4. FIRST AID MEASURES
| Skin contact | Wash well immediately affected area with water and obtain immediate medical advice if irritation or skin damage appear. Remove clothing which must be laundered before re-use. |
| Eyes contact | Wash out with flowing water during 15 minutes and obtain immediate medical attention. |
| Ingestion | Wash out mouth with clean water. Do not induce vomiting. Seek medical attention |
| Inhalation | Keep the patient out of polluted area and make him breathe fresh air. |
5. FIRE PRECAUTIONS/FIRE FIGHTING
Suitable extinguishing media are sand, foam, powder, CO2 and water spray. If water spray is used, make sure spillage does not reach waterways and sewers.
Syntex DIBS is not flammable. Nevertheless, if other combustible products are in the vicinity, effects of heat can generate an irritating vapour.
Full protective equipment and self breathing apparatus should be worn by firemen.
6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE

| Environment protection | Use appropriate containers to avoid releasing into sewers. Use sand, flour, soil to prevent liquid from entering sewers and waterways or obtain consent from authorised bodies before discharging. |
| Cleaning method | Construct dykes with any inert material such as soil, sand in order to prevent spreading and absorb product. Pick up and place in plastic container and dispose of at an approved waste disposal facility according to local laws and regulations. |

10. STABILITY & REACTIVITY
In normal conditions, product is stable. Avoid temperature above 60°C for a long period.
Under unusual conditions, product may breakdown to form oxides of sulphur, phosphorus and phosphine.
Avoid contact with strong alkalis, oxidising and reducing agents. Keep in original packaging.
11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Acute toxicity :
Acute Oral LD 50 on rat : 575 mg/Kg
Acute Dermal LD 50 on rat : > 2,000 mg/Kg
Acute inhalation LC 50 on rats : 5,55 mg/l (4 hours)
Under normal conditions of use, this aqueous viscous liquid is non volatile and does not present an inhalation hazard.
Irritation/Corrosion :
Skin : Syntex DIBS should not give dermal irritation.
Eyes :Product is expected to cause serious damage to the eyes
Inhalation : This product is not expected to cause significant irritation to the lungs, nose and upper respiratory tract.
Sensitisation : May cause allergic skin reaction.
Chronic toxicity :
Carcinogenicity : Observation in two year study (Toxicology Programm) shows no evidence that the main component of Syntex DIBS has the potential to cause cancer neither to rats nor mice.
Mutagenicity (on main product) :
in vitro : Ames test negative - Clastogenic in CHO-cells - No unscheduled DNA synthesis in vivo : Dominant Lethal Assay - negative results
Teratogenicity : Studies on both rats and rabbits, show no indication of toxicity.
NOEL Rat test by 15 mg/Kg/day
NOEL Rabbit test by 18 mg/Kg/day
Medical surveillance for over 30 years of employees show no evidence of developmental
toxicity from long term exposure nor from exposure following incident as major
spillage.
12. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Syntex DIBS is not expected to cause adverse environmental effect if product reaches waterways, sewers, etc ...
The product is readily biodegradable under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Biodegradability on the main component of DIBS achieved over 60 % after 28 days in aerobic study.

13. WASTE DISPOSAL
Disposal of the product can be done only at appropriate waste disposal facility according to applicable laws and regulations.
Syntex DIBS falls under the control of directive 78/319/ECC. Local authority regulations may require special disposal methods.
Packaging : rinse drums of containers with water. This water can be used for diluting concentrated product before use in the industry as leather manufacturing.
The containers or drums can be reused or recycled in accordance with local regulations.
14. TRANSPORT INFORMATION
Syntex DIBS should be containerised only in approved packages with correct labelling. Use and keep in original packaging for better safety. Syntex DIBS is classified as NON HAZARDOUS for transport.
15. REGULATORY INFORMATION
The product is regulated as harmful. It is used in the leather industry.
