HEMATINE HP

1. COMPOSITION

HEMATINE HP is obtained from Logwood (Hematoxylon Campechianum) which has been totally oxidized.

2. PHYSICAL and CHEMICAL PROPERTIES

Aspect : powder

Colour : dark brown

Dry substances : 92-93 %

Colour on leather : depending on the mordant used

3. CHARACTERISTICS

HEMATINE HP is an oxidized extract the colouring principle of which is Haematein. The more or less condensed glucosides and tannins have suffered no damage what allows to keep the tanning properties of the wood extract.

As it is completely oxidized, the use of oxidizing metallic salt is not necessary in dyeing.

HEMATINE HP keeps all the tanning properties of the natural logwood extract : consequently the leather is retanned in the same time than it is dyed in blue-black.

HEMATINE HP can be mixed in any proportion with acid, direct or metalliferous dyestuffs. Basic ones form an insoluble lake with HEMATINE HP. In this case, it is necessary to dye in two bathes.

The mordants currently used are iron sulphate, copper sulphate, aluminium sulphate. Sometimes the use of 2 to 3 mordants is necessary in order to have an effect on the black shades to be achieved or to obtain a jet-black.

4. APPLICATIONS

Due to its retanning effect on the grain, HEMATINE HP is almost recommended for glazed items which have to be very bright.

- Dyeing of glazed kids

- Dyeing of crust leather

- Surface dyeing in the case of vegetable tanned leather
