VALCIDE 10

1. COMPOSITION

Valcide 10 is a formulated preservative containing specific active ingredient to be used in leather industry.

Valcide 10 enhances its bacterial and fungal activity by excellent penetration and is a very rapid acting broad spectrum bactericide.

CAS Number : 6317-18-6

2. PHYSICAL & CHEMICAL PROPERTIES

Assay 10 % main active ingredient

Aspect : creamy yellow AQUEOUS solution

Odour : irritating

Stability : stable in acid and mildly alkaline

pH solution : 6.3 +- 1,0

Specific gravity : 1.05 +- 0.05

3. CHARACTERISTICS

Valcide 10 exhibits rapid microbial kill making it an active ingredient that is suitable for soaking, deliming and pickling.

Valcide 10 is an aqueous microdispersion that is simply diluted with water for end use. It is very stable in acid and neutral conditions.

The absence of organic solvents minimizes environmental and handling difficulties.

Valcide 10 is primarily used when medium term preservation is required offering excellent results due to its rapid penetration.

Valcide 10 has been approved by United States Environmental Protection Agency and US Food and Drug Administration Code of Federal Regulations as a slimicide and paper preservative.

4. APPLICATIONS

Valcide 10 is mainly recommended from soaking to deliming operations where high levels of bacterial and fungal contamination are present.

The use of Valcide 10 reduces staining and loss of hide substance and minimize microbial spoilage problems at later treatment stages. Where environmental restrictions have resulted in reduced salt usage, Valcide 10 can offer the additional protection required.

Valcide 10 is recommended for wet blue tanning and stain where long preservation is required, but with higher percentages. In that case, Valcide 10 can be replaced by Valcide 30.

There are applications using the main active ingredients of Valcide 10 in paper industry as well as :

- timber

- paints

- surface coating

- adhesives

CONCENTRATION OF USE

It is not possible to recommend a single regime of use suitable for all tanneries as process and external conditions will vary from tannery to tannery.

In soaking the use of Valcide 10 can vary from 0.05 % to 0.2 % to give efficient protection depending how curing and skin handling have been done.

During tanning and retanning, you can use between 0.05 and 0.1 %, even 0.2 %, according to the preservation time required.
