3. CHARACTERISTICS

RETAN TAC has been specially formulated in order to obtain shrunken lambskins and sheepskins from other sources than Australia or New Zealand.

The action of RETAN TAC follows the principle that an astringent tanning material arriving on basified skin will fix massively on the surface and will not penetrate inside the deep layer.

RETAN TAC has natural and high tanning properties which allow it to be used in mixture in the tannage of vegetable hides and skins but which must not be used alone.

For shrunken skins, we must remember that many factors will intervene to determinate the grain aspect of the leather, the main ones being lengh of the bath and running at low speed : dry tanning will give a finer grain. Short bath will give a smoother but bigger grain.

In retanning, the use of DUVALTAN MF will keep very tight shrunken effect with no risk of loosing the aspect of the skin after dry milling, toggling and dry shaving.

We shall not forget that each skin has its own natural way to shrink and this is in the particular nature of leather itself.

4. APPLICATIONS

Shrunken tanning effect on all types of hides and skins from depickled or delimed skins. On lambskins, for example, we can apply :

- Depicklage

- Basification to pH 8

- Tannage : 15 to 20 % RETAN TAC (60 minutes at low speed)

- Normal chrome tanning

- Leave for 2 to 3 days

- Normal retanning with use of 3 to 5 % DUVALTAN MF.
